How HandsUp Cloud Storage Protects Your Recordings — Even If Your Phone Doesn't Make It
How your footage stays encrypted, uploaded, and yours — even if your phone doesn't make it.

Encrypted before it even leaves your device.

Press record, and HandsUp does something remarkable: your video and audio are encrypted on your device the moment capture starts, and uploaded to secure cloud storage in real time. The footage you create is preserved even if your phone is damaged, lost, or seized — and only you can decrypt it.

What encryption actually means here.

HandsUp uses end-to-end encryption — your recording is scrambled with a key only you control. Strong key management means even HandsUp's own servers can't read your footage. Only you can decrypt and access what you record.

End-to-end encryption is the same standard used by major messaging platforms and banking systems. The key never leaves your device unencrypted, and the cloud only ever holds scrambled data. That means a server breach, a compelled disclosure, or an internal bad actor still can't access your recordings.

When you log in from a new device, your decryption key is re-derived from your account credentials and never sent over the network in plain form. The recording you saved last week is just as inaccessible to anyone else as the recording you saved last minute.

Real-time upload.

The moment you press record, chunks of video start streaming to encrypted cloud storage. By the time you stop recording, the upload is typically complete. There's no waiting period, no manual sync, no risk of losing footage to a phone that runs out of battery or gets dropped.

What happens if your phone doesn't make it.

Damaged phone? Your footage is already in the cloud — log in from any device. Stolen phone? Same, plus you can remote-revoke access from account settings. Phone seized? Officers cannot delete cloud-backed footage. Phone runs out of battery mid-recording? Whatever uploaded before power loss is preserved.

If your phone is destroyed in a collision, dropped in water, or simply runs out of memory, the recording is unaffected. The cloud copy is the canonical version. Your phone is just a capture device — replaceable, replaceable, replaceable.

If your phone is seized, anything that uploaded before the seizure is permanently outside the seizing party's control. Even if a court later compels HandsUp to produce the recordings, that process is bound by warrant requirements and notification obligations that protect your rights.

Storage tiers and ownership.

HandsUp Basic includes seven days of rolling cloud storage. HandsUp Pro unlocks unlimited cloud storage, full export, and dashcam-mode integration. HandsUp Premium adds family plan support up to five members and priority redundancy across multiple geographic regions.

You own everything.

Your recordings stay yours, accessible only to you, and never deletable by anyone else. That's the entire point of HandsUp — making sure the moment that matters is documented in a way no one can take from you.

You can export, share, or delete your own recordings at any time. HandsUp will never share your footage with anyone — including law enforcement — without a valid warrant and prior notice to you, except where prohibited by law. Your evidence is always yours.
